Your obligation: SSA will sponsor all tuition and related program specific expenses in return for a two year employment agreement which includes a non-competition requirement. This is a terrific opportunity for those not willing to seek outside financing or pay the out of pocket expenses to obtain this nationally recognized certification.
Earn supplemental income while you complete your career education working in an as-needed capacity (PRN) employee of Sleep Services of America. Earnings expectations: Trainee salary expectations $14.00 / hour as a PRN technician; Technologist starting salary $20.00 or more/hr. Class time and clinical rotations are not paid time.
Requirements: Must attend school at a community college (to be designated) and pass the CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) sleep educational curriculum along with performing clinical training in polysomnography at an AASM approved facility.
Work overnight (typically 8:30 pm – 6:30 am) or perform clinical training on the third shift (overnight) approximately 20 hours per week (all shifts are 10 hours long). This career field opportunity requires that you are available to work any night of the week. Attend day classes approximately 20 hours per week
Upon successful completion of your schooling and passing of the BRPT national registry exam you will have an opportunity to apply for full time employment as a Polysomnographic technologist with SSA.
Additional Requirements: Applicants must meet the following criteria in order to be considered for this opportunity:
Bachelor’s of Science degree in Biology, Nursing or other related health care field
or
Associates of Science degree in the allied health professions or biology
and
Successfully completed most of the following listed courses:
Required pre-requisite courses:
Anatomy and Physiology
Medical Terminology
CPR
Basic Math for health care workers or higher such as college algebra
General courses in health care
Pharmacology/medication administration
EKG

On October 1, 2006, a law went into effect requiring the Board to regulate Polysomnographic Technologists. The Board has established an advisory committee and is developing regulations for Polysomnographic technologists.
